The Friends of the Bosque del Apache NWR is seeking designs to become a theme graphic for future Festivals.

The winning design will be featured on the program cover, t-shirts, cups and other Festival memorabilia. In addition to the significant recognition in advertising and publications related to the Festival, the creator of the winning design receives a complementary booth space in the juried artists’ show at the Festival of the Cranes. The event is held every November at the refuge drawing thousands of visitor’s each year.

The chosen artist must sign a contract declaring the design to be an original creation. You may not copy any other artists’ photos or artwork without their written permission. This includes any published material. The winning artist conveys copyright to the Friends of the Bosque del Apache for a period of one year upon signing of contract. Copyright reverts to artist unless further use of the image is negotiated.

To be considered, artwork must be between 4"x6" and 8"x10" submitted along with a description of the artwork and contact information. All 2-D media are acceptable. When you are considering a design for your entry, remember that it will be reproduced in a number of formats. Your design should work well in color or in black and white. This is a commercial art project and simplicity is very important. Unusual, creative designs are welcome and encouraged but the subject matter must be relevant to the Bosque del Apache NWR, its wildlife and its environs. The chosen design will require a professional 4x5 transparency or the use of the original artwork.

Artwork selection is an ongoing process. Sometimes it is selected two years in advance and at other times, due to cirmstances, it may be a last minute decision.
