Writers who Love the Bosque &
Help to Keep It Safe
Writers Are Friends, too!
Featured Writer Friends:
Barbara DuBois
Writers influence, enhance and clarify our appreciation of the world. With our world becoming more fragile, and the loss of habitat more devastating, we see writers, artists and photographers, nature lovers and others joining forces to convey the importance of providing and preserving refuge for those who share our world.
Together, we all try to help! Please join us!
LAS MARIPOSAS
Butterflies like birds migrate;
we're happy when they congregate
at Bosque or our own backyard
but their short life is rough and hard:
when winter comes they have to leave.
We sympathize with them and grieve.
Their habitats are mostly gone
because of how we carry on
destroying meadows everywhere
without a thought, without a care.
We can rejoice that there are some
who want the butterflies to come
groups who work to save the land
and give the butterflies a hand.
Vivan las mariposas!

ALEXANDER'S BIRDS
Turning, turning, snow geese make a design
like a kaleidoscope,
Greek for "sight of beautiful form."
Not turning, they line up
like a string of pearls in the turquoise sky.
Alexander had his seers
read bird behavior
and led his life and sometimes
saved it thereby.
Can we follow him and lead our lives
according to bird flight?
What meaning can we latter-day cynics
read in the graceful motions
of these incandescent shapes?
Only the lesson that we may cherish
beauty for its own sake.
Some things need not be good for something.
